If you are in the market for a new property then you may be excited about this new chapter of your life. That being said, sometimes the only way to move up on the property ladder is to buy an older property that you can renovate.

Although there’s nothing wrong with this, you do need to make sure you aren’t getting more than you bargained for with pests. After all, pests can cause a huge amount of structural damage in a very short space of time, so you need to make sure that you safeguard your property against this by looking out for the top signs.

Finding Droppings

Finding dark pellets or very small specks of brown around the home could indicate that you have pests. It is possible for you to identify the pests that you have by simply looking at the droppings and then comparing them to images online. When you do this, you will be able to find out what animals you have lurking around your home, and to what extent. This is the best way for you to make sure that you are tackling the issue to the best of your ability. If you aren’t sure how to eradicate the issue, then make sure you go to the professionals and hire a pest control service.

Gnaw Marks

Finding teeth marks around small crevices can be a sign of an infestation. This is often the result of having mice and rats. Gnaw marks tend to be found around furnishings or around skirting boards, so make sure that you check these areas. Rats and mice often end up going somewhere quiet to make their den, so be mindful of the attic, behind the cupboards or even within the walls. If you can do this then you will soon find that it is easier for you to keep an eye on how things are progressing.

Grease Marks

Pests tend to establish their routes around the home by leaving either grease marks, or rub marks on the side of the walls or on the floor. The grease and dirt that their bodies leave behind can be spotted, so make sure that you keep an eye out and that you listen out for them when it’s quiet. If you can do this then there’s no reason why you shouldn’t be able to track them properly.

Bad Smell

If you have been asking yourself where the bad smell in your home has been coming from, then it may not be a plumbing issue, or even the bins. It may be that you have pests present. If this is the case then you need to look out for insects or mice. Both of them have strong smells of ammonia. If you have bed bugs then you may notice a sweeter odor, and if you have roaches, then a vinegary scent may be present. If you can take note of the type of smell and where it seems to be coming from then this will help you in the future.
